From the Perspective of My Neighbor Alice CEO: Explaining GameFi’s Development Status, Core Team and Game Mechanics

My Neighbor Alice (ALICE) is a multiplayer building game. Players can buy and own virtual land in the game; collect and build interesting items; interact with neighbors, socialize in the chain game and other activities.

Players can occupy a plot of land in the game, dress up their plot to their liking, and also participate in activities such as farming, fishing, bug hunting and beekeeping in the farm.

As the sole guardian of the Lummelunda Islands, Alice is tired of living alone. So she’s ready to start inviting some new neighbors to join her. My Neighbor Alice is now available in the game preview beta on August 31, inviting everyone to join her in promoting the islands’ prosperity.

Question1: Welcome Anna Norrevik to CryptoJ community for the second time! Please introduce My Neighbor Alice again to us, including its emerging background and future vision, and the problem you want to solve? What are the latest progresses?

Anna Norrevik:Hi again everyone, great to be here again.

My Neighbor Alice is still this social multiplayer builder game, where anyone can buy and own virtual islands, collect and build exciting items and meet new friends. Inspired by successful games such as Animal Crossing, the game combines the best of the two worlds — a fun narrative for regular players who want to enjoy the gameplay experience as well as an ecosystem for players who want to collect and trade NFTs.

My Neighbor Alice is not just a game for blockchain players. But a game that plans to introduce blockchain to millions of players.

The game is aimed at the diverse gaming community which can get easily onboarded from regular platforms. Our main line of comparison lies within the traditional gaming market, like Animal Crossing, with the same players being targeted as our audience. Due to a new unobtrusive way of connecting an exciting game narrative and blockchain features, My Neighbor Alice has a potential to attract millions of gamers, and an associated larger opportunity for revenues.

The game is designed in a way to allow players to “own the game” by exercising power over the platform. Token holders will also enjoy the democratic governance model, being part of our so called Community Council, and be able to vote on different decisions for the game.

We are happy to share that we released the pre-alpha version on August 31st ! ALICE token holders around the world will be able to participate in an open playtest of a pre-alpha version of the game where players will be able to try the introductory chapter of My Neighbor Alice. Take a stroll through Lummesta town, get to know the locals and chat with friends as you experience the introduction part of My Neighbor Alice.

Question2: During our AMA with Lenny Pettersson in March, we talked about the progress it had made by the time. Today we would like to invite Anna Norrevik to share with us the stories of your other team members. How did you get to know each other and developed this project My Neighbor Alice?

Anna Norrevik:Alice is created by Antler Interactive, a gaming studio based in Stockholm. The idea to start the project My Neighbor Alice was born from our Art Director Oliwer Svensson. Inspiration comes from smaller town building games with a community that shares their creation and comes up with creative ways to build.

We have always also wanted to do a multiplayer game that involves more than one player to interact. Building a world where you can see and interact with other players, especially together with blockchain is something truly exciting to work on.

Question3: Recently, NFT and GameFi have become the most popular topic in the market. As one of the projects in the track of NFT and GameFi, how do you see the current development status of this field, and why did My Neighbor Alice choose to join this field?

Anna Norrevik:NFTs and blockchain bring entirely new experiences to players of the games. What makes this experience unique is that almost all items in the game are decentralized, using the power of innovative blockchain technology. That means players truly own their game assets as they can freely trade them with other players, sell them for real-world value, and use them across different game universes. Admittedly, not every game needs NFTs, but one day blockchain functionality may be as commonplace for gaming as internet connectivity has become over the last 20 years.

However, even with NFTs and blockchain features, the game should be playable and fun. The current games in blockchain are more emphasizing on the token economics features, where they have the player experience evolve around the “earning” aspect. We want to balance the fun game experience with the economics on day one for our 1.0 release.

Question4: GameFi has become the hotspot of the market since this summer.「Play to earn」model has also become the light spot of numerous crypto games. What do you think are the major strengths and weaknesses of this model? Does Treeverse adopt this model as well?

Anna Norrevik:It’s obvious to see that play to earn become one of the important methods to attract users to play the game, and it changed the previous playing experience for users. But if the priority of a game is “Play to Earn” , and when the return/ earning is smaller in the future, people will be less interested to play it. Just like lots of Defi protocol, if the APY is getting smaller, users will leave that platform. So we believe it should be “Play and Earn”. The priority should be gameplay experience, and users need to have fun when playing the game.

My Neighbor Alice will very much be a Play and Earn game. We’ll roll out more information about this as we’re getting closer to the main launch next year, but players will long term in-game be able to earn from different gameplay features such as:

- Fishing

- Farming

As a landowner, you’ll in the future be able to earn from renting out your Land and earn yield from it through various activities. The same goes for renting out various NFTs.

Furthermore, there will be staking events held.

Question5: My Neighbor Alice has just launched the pre-alpha test version of the game, what are the functions the players can try out for now? What are some of the feedback you have already received from the players?

Anna Norrevik:In the pre-alpha version of My Neighbor Alice, the amount of gameplay is limited to only a few gameplay features. In this test version the following will for example not be available: The marketplace, visiting your plot, building & landscaping.

In this pre-alpha version you´ll play through the introduction chapter of the game where you´ll be able to meet and get int- roduced to some of the locals (NPCs) in the game which will give you some simple quests to complete. You´ll also be able to meet and chat with fellow players and explore the town together.

Question6: We know that Lummelunda Island is composed of Snowflake Island, Medieval Plains, Nature’s Rest, Lummestad (The Town), Sandy Coast, and Submerged Islands. What are some of the differences among these islands? What are the positions and functions of these islands in the game? When can we participate in the next land sale?

Anna Norrevik:The different islands are themed uniquely. For example Sandy Coast is made up of Sand while Nature’s Rest is made up of Grass, Trees and Forest. So players can decide what kind of theme or island fits them best. If they have a specific creative vision in mind when they decorate their plot, one island may fit better than another.

Different islands will have their own unique properties that may be useful for certain activities in game such as Fishing. We encourage players to explore different islands, and visit other players plots.The next land sale would be Q4 2021

Question7: What is the target market of My Neighbor Alice? Would it be accessible for users without knowledge of the crypto industry?

Anna Norrevik:My Neighbor Alice is not to be seen only as a game for blockchain players. It is first a game for a large global audience of players in general. Through easy and intuitive onboarding, no prior knowledge about cryptocurrencies is needed. Because of that, we compare mainly with the traditional game market and will target the same players long-term. This is a much bigger audience than previously seen in blockchain gaming and an associated more significant opportunity for revenues.

But regarding a more defined target audience, we have analyzed the target market of the Inspiration games such as Animal Crossing. My Neighbor Alice has a broad appeal but primarily targets 18 to 39 years old with a female skew.

The project has, of course, already attracted a lot of early adopters within the Crypto community.

Question8: Will My Neighbor Alice be compatible with platforms apart from Steam? Will you launch the Android / iOS version? Would it be any hardcore requirements for running the game?

Anna Norrevik:Well, it depends on demand. We will be compatible with other gaming platforms. and regarding the mobile version, at the moment, we have Alice’s Mysterious Seed companion game that is most suitable for mobile.

In this game, you can plant the seed and nurture and take care of the seed for 14 days. Upon it, you will receive a fruit or berry if you succeed in it, which will be transferred to your wallet as an NFT and used in the Alice game.

Question9:For value capturing, what is the tokenomics of My Neighbor Alice?How do you incentivize the users to hold the tokens in the long run? What are the application scenarios of the token and how could it be combined with「Play to earn」?

Anna Norrevik:ALICE token is the native currency in the game. It allows token holders to play, invest and also be part of the game. There is a fixed supply of ALICE tokens. Token utilities includes:

Payments: ALICE is the game currency that players use to purchase assets and land in the game.

DeFi: Staking is a way to lend a currency, and receive interest in return. Token holders could participate in staking and earn rewards as a certain percentage of platform revenues will be given out as staking rewards. For instance, the game would have revenues from plot sales, asset sales, transaction fees etc. and that a fixed proportion would be distributed to the staking pool. NFTs will also have DeFi features such as collateralization and buybacks.

Governance: Owning Alice enables the player to participate in the governance process through a decentralized organisation, with proposals and voting structures. There are issues related to the platform operations and development that could be decided based on the preference of the token holders. In order to encourage users to participate in the voting process, there will also be rewards for voters.

Play to earn: There are a proportion of the tokens reserved for user incentives. By completing quests in the game, players could earn ALICE tokens. This design is to encourage user participation in the game and retention.

Question10:What are the following plans for My Neighbor Alice? Will there be any updated version of the game? Will you cooperate with other GameFi projects to promote the ecosystem?

Anna Norrevik:We are going to add more features in the game and release new versions by roadmap. We are open to partnership with projects that we have potential synergy.
